As you drive through Ely look for the sign on Ely Road...this is the new home of the Ely Corner Art Studio & Gallery. This is my new home for teaching acrylics. Along with acrylics we will have artist Mike Ryan teach oil painting. We will be opening September 6th and have the new art schedule posted on www.elycornerart.blogspot.com . The gallery will feature many new artists and host student art shows. On October 1 the first Ely Corner Art Festival will be held. This is during the Ely Fall Festival and opens at 8 & ends at 4. The studio will be home of "Coffee & Canvas", "Wine & Brushes" & "Cake and Canvas" events. So stop on in when you see the sign it the metropolis of Ely, IA!

My theory on painting!

No matter what you paint...what style your art when I teach you will hear me say "feel the painting". By that I mean put yourself into the art..feel the roundness of a sphere. Feel the coolness of the shade when you put your hand into the shade of your painted tree. Feel the heat of the sun..if you can not feel then perhaps you need to stand back and "feel" the changes you need to make. Imagine you are creating a sculpture..you have to feel the roundness of the object...the same with painting!

Whether it is an Iowa landscape or a flower petal...step inside and get the "feel" of the trees or the curve of the petals!

The classes at the Shueyville Art Gallery are a series of 6-2hour sessions. My students work to accomplish the sense of feel during these.
